    "Apples"- When buying apples select those that have good color for their variety, have a fresh, bright appearance and are firm to the touch. 2 1/2" or more are ideal for general all-around use. The larger sizes (3" and up) of the baking varieties are best for that purpose baking. The smaller ones are often priced economically for baking.
